Concrete Prices – Additional Items

Among the many materials whose prices must be determined, concrete prices stand among the few whose prices are hard to estimate. There are many factors that determine this and one of them is the variation of locations. The others include the formwork, rebar, surface prep, and the real cost of the concrete mix.

Some contractors and buyers are adept at this, given their years in the business. For the laymen and the first-timers (who has some construction work to undertake), the following are some of the conditions that will help you understand how to break down and generate your own concrete pricing estimate.

Ready mixed concrete

Taking all the other considerations in full, the most important item you need to consider is the price of concrete whether you are using ready-mixed or some other kinds. The ready mix can offer a quote once you have defined the scope and details on where your concrete is going to be poured (used).

By tradition, concrete is essentially quoted per cubic yard or cubic meter. As average, the price could be around $77 per cubic yard. However, you need to have your ready mix quoted by your local supplier.

Sub-grades

When you will use your concrete over soil, you would need to grade or prepare the soil surface for the concrete. The pricing on this is a bit difficult. This is because this will cover the expenses related to the grading, compacting the soil, excavating, trenching and other tasks that can affect the concrete price calculation.

Again, as a temporary average, you can use $65 per hour of work that will be neede3d to prepare the soil surface. This is also assuming that the surface is more than 75% leveled and there is no huge amount of work needed in the preparation.

Additional work

If your planned surface is not yet leveled, you will need extra work added to provide an accurate concrete pricing. This depends on how much there is to do, and this will be significant in the pricing calculation.

Sometimes, there might be some surcharges, excavation and filling with suitable materials or simply removing soft spots on the terrain. (This will make it suitable to withstand the oncoming structure loads.)

The distance where you will provide sand or other suitable filling material could add up to about $ 10 per cubic meter or cubic yard in your estimate. This does not include the polyurethane plastic or vapor barrier needed to be installed before placing the concrete.

Concrete forms

As the most labor-intensive activity in concreting, concrete forms will also affect the concrete price. You need to identify the type of formwork you will use, how it will be installed, and the choice of buying it or renting it. The average pricing is around $1.10 per square feet.

The type of materials used on formwork will also be an important cost factor. Usually forgotten also is the crane or other equipments to be used to move the formwork. (Formworks can be re-used and repaired after several uses.)

Finally, concrete prices can vary depending on the type of finishing you want (smooth, exposed, stamped, etc.).
