Steel Reinforcing Mesh – Improving Concrete Tensile Strength

The main work of reinforcing mesh (or also known as REO mesh) is used to improve the tensile strength of concrete. This prevents cracks to the structural elements. As such, the mesh is manufactured from welded wire or prefabricated Brisbane steel reinforcing mesh.

These come in a variety of sizes. Mostly, they come in square grids or rectangular patterns.

Uses

This square mesh is a general purpose concrete reinforcing mesh used for flat concrete areas like floors or walls. These D500L grand ribbed wires are welded together during manufacture in order to make those square apertures.

Rectangular mesh / Ute mesh

The rectangular mesh is used for walls and concrete floor slabs. It is a reinforcement product which is fabricated from D500L grade ribbed wires. The design is ideal when additional strength is required for a chosen direction.

The Ute mesh is a specifically designed and manufactured to fit safely (and legally) onto the back of Utes and trucks without any dangerous overhangs. This allows the sheets to be transported safely. Given their size, ute mesh sheets are able to be handled by one person.

Trench mesh

The trench mesh is used primarily for residential footing trenches and concrete beams. It is manufactured from D500L ribbed wire using a range of longitudinal wires which can be up to 12v millimeter in diameter.

Welded mesh fabric

The welded mesh fabric is generally used in surface beds (concrete floor slabs on fill) and road pavements.  The mesh is also used in suspended floor slabs, concrete retaining  walls, box culverts, and drains, precast stadium seating, tilt-up wall panels among others.

With the use of welded mesh, the construction process speeds up. This is now available in wide range of wire diameters with each one suited for a particular reinforcing design application.

Depending on the job requirements, welded mesh can be designed either in flat sheets, rolls or bent to suit the need of the present project.  The deformed wire used in the production of welded mesh improves concrete adhesion.

Welded mesh can be used at higher stresses than that of high tensile rebar. This yields 8% overall material savings. Due to its rigid nature, concrete cover can be controlled more accurately on site.

Manufacturing standard

Welded mesh is manufacture in strict compliance to SANS1024 Standard Specifications as well as to international specifications on request. Where there is a significant amount of repetition, conventional bar reinforcement can be substituted with pre-manufactured designed mesh resulting in easier controls, speed of installation, reduction of cuts and wastage.

The welded mesh fabric reinforcement is manufactured using cold-rolled deformed were, electrically resistance welded at the intersections of the longitude and transverse wires at the required mesh spacing with minimal loss of strength and cross-sectional area.

For the best Brisbane steel reinforcing mesh, the latest state-of-the-art equipment was used to produce the best steel mesh to suit its specific needs.
