The Brisbane slab concrete is actually a
reinforced slab which is a crucial element in modern buildings. A concrete slab
is a common structural element of modern buildings, consisting of a flat,
horizontal surface made of cast concrete.
Slab
concrete is important in most constructions. They are also used in pool decks,
outdoor kitchens, driveways and sidewalks. The slab is durable and has a robust
foundation. It supports multiple types of materials of construction, and
enhances the overall lifespan of any structure.
They
are generally classified as one-way slab and two-way slabs. The one-way slab is
supported on two sides and the ratio of long to short span is greater than two.
The latter is supported on four sides and the ratio is long to short span is
smaller than two.
On the subsoil
In
various domestic and industrial buildings, the thick concrete slab is supported
on foundations or directly on the subsoil and is used to construct the ground
floor. These slabs are generally classified as ground-bearing or suspended. The
leaner ones (sometimes called mud slabs) are used for exterior paving.
A
ground-bearing slab is one that rests directly on the foundation . Otherwise,
the slab is suspended. In skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, leaner slabs are
susp[ended or hung between steel frames from floors and ceilings on each level.
Sizes (leaner / medium / large sized)
There
are more uses of slab concrete which are dependent on their respective sizes.
The leaner slabs (or pre-fabricated small) easily bought and used as a patio in the premises of your house.
The
medium sized slab concrete offers more possibilities. They can be constructed
on-site of you or you can get
pre-fabricated ones. These slabs are
also useful in making false flooring.
Large-sized
slabs are concrete that have large dimensions. They are useful in the making of
larger projects. One important consideration in working with slabs of large
sizes is to have them level and in good condition.
Advantages
Apart
from being cost effective, slabs have many advantages. it gives, first of all,
sdtrength and durability because it sets a firm foundation for any structure.
They can endure immense pressure without cracking and carry weights over them.
Another
significant advantage of the slab is it is generally resistant to weather. It
does not corrode under adverse weather and temperature conditions. The
contraction in winter can be a bit of a problem but expansion in summers is not
an issue for slab concrete. wityh its tensile quality, it can also adjust
properly.
Disadvantages
Slabs
have fewer disadvantages. One of these is that it has a good overall endurance
against temperature and weather. However, it is vulnerable to damage in frigid
temperatures.
This is
because concrete does not have a very porous composition. Also, due to the fact
that it has lesser void spaces, it can crack while contracting.
Another
disadvantage is that it has fresh concrete that has a sticky nature. While
drying, it becomes gooey. This sticky nature can cause discoloration after
exposure to liquids (oil, water, grease) over long periods.
